This exhibition presents the work of Ghanaian–British based artist Anthony Amoako Attah, whose practice explores the powerful intersection of cultural heritage and material innovation. Working primarily with glass, Attah transforms the visual language of Kente into striking contemporary forms that bridge tradition and modern design.

Historically woven by the Akan people, Kente cloth is one of the most important cultural textiles of Ghana, with each pattern carrying encoded proverbs, philosophies, and historical narratives. The textile has recently received international recognition through its designation as a Geographical Indication, affirming its origin and cultural significance.

For Attah, glass becomes a powerful medium for preservation. Its permanence and luminosity allow cultural memory to be held, protected, and reinterpreted. By translating the woven structures and symbolic patterns of Kente into glass, the artist captures the spirit of the textile while extending its presence into a new sculptural dimension.

Each work reflects a dialogue between craftsmanship and concept—where fragile transparency meets the enduring strength of cultural identity. Through this process, Attah not only honors the legacy of Kente but also expands its narrative within contemporary art.
